Compton Honors Our Heroes at the 22nd Annual Veterans Stand Down
The Compton Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted the 22nd Annual Veterans Stand Down, serving 350 veterans with medical care, housing aid, meals, and support. With 75 vendors, VA transportation, and a keynote by Christine White of VA Long Beach, the three-day event offered dignity, hope, and community. Mayor Emma Sharif welcomed attendees, and the City of Compton aired highlights on Channel 36.

Utility Users Tax (UUT) Exemption – City of Compton
The City of Compton imposes a 10% Utility Users Tax on water service charges. Exemptions include non-“persons,” government agencies, federal credit unions, certain insurers, and low-income seniors (62+) or disabled residents. To apply—no mail/email/fax—visit the Treasurer’s Office with your recent utility bills, proof of income, and photo ID. No refunds without a filed exemption form. Housing Rehabilitation Assistance in Compton: A Lifeline for Homeowners

Compton High School Alumni Association Announces 2025 Scholarship Winners
On May 29, 2025, the Compton High School Alumni Association awarded $1,000 scholarships to seniors Gabriel Ulloa (Maxcy Filer Community Service Award) and Jackeline Maltos Garibay (Most Improved Award). All 2025 graduates also received commemorative dogtags with the Tarbabe mascot and CHSAA logo. CHSAA, founded in 2006, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Compton High alumni.
