The Compton Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted the 22nd Annual Veterans Stand Down, serving 350 veterans with medical care, housing aid, meals, and support. With 75 vendors, VA transportation, and a keynote by Christine White of VA Long Beach, the three-day event offered dignity, hope, and community. Mayor Emma Sharif welcomed attendees, and the City of Compton aired highlights on Channel 36.

Exemptions include non-“persons,” government agencies, federal credit unions, certain insurers, and low-income seniors (62+) or disabled residents. It provides food, shelter, clothing, health, legal, housing, and employment services to veterans and their families. The City of Compton’s 2025 Housing Rehabilitation Program helps low- to moderate-income homeowners—including seniors, veterans, and disabled residents—make critical home repairs, energy upgrades, and accessibility improvements. Eligible households may receive up to $30,000–$35,000. Applications are open July 14–31, 2025. Apply online or in person at Compton City Hall. The goal is to ensure safe, healthy, and dignified housing for all residents.

The Compton Chamber of Commerce mourns the loss of Dave Scott, beloved choreographer and hometown icon, who passed at 52. Born and raised in Compton, Dave rose from self-taught street dancer to global influence in film and television. He uplifted others, mentored youth, and proudly represented Compton with heart, artistry, and grace. His legacy lives on in our community and beyond.

On May 29, 2025, the Compton High School Alumni Association awarded $1,000 scholarships to seniors Gabriel Ulloa (Maxcy Filer Community Service Award) and Jackeline Maltos Garibay (Most Improved Award). Broader cuts include limiting care for undocumented adults and removing benefits, sparking backlash from health groups urging protection for vulnerable communities.
