California’s new law will require Compton Unified to gradually phase out certain ultraprocessed and restricted school foods beginning in 2029. Familiar meals such as pizza or chicken nuggets are not automatically banned, but some products may need healthier ingredients or reformulation. CUSD’s partnership with Everytable and its move toward freshly prepared meals may give the district a valuable head start.

The LA84 Foundation has awarded grant funding to Compton Unified School District to expand free after-school sports programs across 25 school campuses, benefiting approximately 1,700 students. The investment supports coaching, equipment, uniforms, transportation, and participation in multiple sports while removing financial barriers. The program strengthens youth development, promotes healthy lifestyles, and reflects continued investment in Compton's future.

Compton High School's partnership with the GRAMMY® Award-winning National Children's Chorus continues as part of its growing performing arts program. Launched in 2025, the scholarship-funded initiative provides students with professional vocal training, music theory, and performance experience. The Compton Community College District Board of Trustees has approved the provisional appointment of Dr. Nicole J. Jones to represent Trustee Area 2 following the resignation of Barbara Calhoun. Dr. Jones previously served on the board during a pivotal period when Compton College regained accreditation and local governance. She will serve in the position until voters decide the seat in the November 3, 2026 election.

Compton youth can access lifeguard and junior lifeguard programs that build water safety, fitness, leadership, and job skills. Options include Junior Lifeguard and Junior Lake Lifeguard programs for ages 9–17 through LA County and nearby cities, plus professional lifeguard certification through the American Lifeguard Association for teens 15+. Programs run mainly in summer, with registration opening early in the year and some scholarships available.

The Compton Chamber thanks Verizon for its transformational investment in local students through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program. With new devices, enhanced connectivity, and expanded STEM resources, 16 Compton schools now benefit from improved digital access. This partnership strengthens educational equity, supports teachers, and empowers the next generation of innovators in Compton.

Compton Unified School District is bringing scratch-cooked, USDA-compliant meals to 31 schools through a new partnership with Everytable. The program aims to provide healthy, affordable lunches for students while supplementing the district’s existing nutrition program for students and staff. The district-wide rollout officially began with the 2025–26 school year, following a summer of taste tests and student feedback sessions.

On May 29, 2025, the Compton High School Alumni Association awarded $1,000 scholarships to seniors Gabriel Ulloa (Maxcy Filer Community Service Award) and Jackeline Maltos Garibay (Most Improved Award). All 2025 graduates also received commemorative dogtags with the Tarbabe mascot and CHSAA logo. CHSAA, founded in 2006, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Compton High alumni.
