How Soon Will California’s New School-Food Law Affect Compton Unified
California’s new law will require Compton Unified to gradually phase out certain ultraprocessed and restricted school foods beginning in 2029. Familiar meals such as pizza or chicken nuggets are not automatically banned, but some products may need healthier ingredients or reformulation. CUSD’s partnership with Everytable and its move toward freshly prepared meals may give the district a valuable head start.

Opening Pathways to Purpose, Safety, and Summer Employment
Compton youth can access lifeguard and junior lifeguard programs that build water safety, fitness, leadership, and job skills. Options include Junior Lifeguard and Junior Lake Lifeguard programs for ages 9–17 through LA County and nearby cities, plus professional lifeguard certification through the American Lifeguard Association for teens 15+. Programs run mainly in summer, with registration opening early in the year and some scholarships available.

Everytable Partners with Compton Unified: Fresh Scratch-Cooked Meals for 31 Schools

Compton High School Alumni Association Announces 2025 Scholarship Winners
On May 29, 2025, the Compton High School Alumni Association awarded $1,000 scholarships to seniors Gabriel Ulloa (Maxcy Filer Community Service Award) and Jackeline Maltos Garibay (Most Improved Award). All 2025 graduates also received commemorative dogtags with the Tarbabe mascot and CHSAA logo. CHSAA, founded in 2006, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Compton High alumni.
