Empowering Compton’s Future: Verizon Expands Digital Access Across Local Schools

The Compton Chamber of Commerce extends its deepest gratitude to Verizon for its continued investment in our students, our schools, and the future of our city. Your commitment to expanding digital access and empowering young learners is making a profound and lasting impact on the Compton community.

The recent delivery of new devices to students at Kelly Elementary highlights the importance of ensuring that every child has the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. Early exposure to technology builds confidence, sparks curiosity, and opens pathways to future opportunity—especially for students in communities that have historically faced barriers to digital access.

Through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program, this commitment goes far beyond providing devices. This year, Kelly, Bursch, and Emerson Elementary joined the program, bringing the total to sixteen Compton Unified schools now benefitting from enhanced connectivity, digital resources, and STEM-focused learning. The 752 new devices delivered this year reflect more than $35 million in Verizon’s overall investment in Compton Unified to date.

Statewide, Verizon Innovative Learning supports 66 California schools, serving nearly 80,000 students—most from low-income households—and equipping more than 3,000 teachers with technology-integration training. Nationally, the program continues to expand. In 2024, 34 new schools were added, contributing to a total of 660 Verizon Innovative Learning Schools since 2014. These schools receive devices, connectivity, curriculum, and ongoing professional development.

Since 2012, nearly 9 million students nationwide have benefitted from Verizon Innovative Learning, part of a more than $1 billion investment in digital equity and inclusion. The long-term vision is to provide digital-skills training to 10 million youths by 2030.
