LA84 Foundation Investment Brings New Opportunities to Compton Youth

Compton continues to benefit from growing regional investment in youth sports and recreation.

The LA84 Foundation, established as the legacy organization of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, recently announced $1.78 million in grant funding to 19 organizations across Southern California dedicated to expanding access to youth sports and physical activity. Among the recipients is Compton Unified School District (CUSD), which will use its grant to significantly expand free after-school sports programming throughout the city.

Expanding Opportunities Across Compton

The funding will allow Compton Unified to extend free sports programming to 25 school campuses, benefiting approximately 1,700 students. The initiative is designed to remove many of the financial and logistical barriers that often prevent children from participating in organized athletics.

The grant will support:

• Free after-school sports programs

• Coach stipends and professional training

• Sports equipment and uniforms

• Transportation assistance where needed

• Expanded participation in baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, and track & field
