Compton College Board Selects Dr. Nicole J. Jones as Provisional Trustee for Area 2

The Compton Chamber of Commerce extends its warm congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Nicole J. Jones on her provisional appointment to Trustee Area 2 of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees. Dr. Jones was appointed by the Board during its March 9, 2026 meeting to fill the seat vacated following the recent resignation of Trustee Barbara Calhoun.

Dr. Jones is no stranger to the Compton College community. She previously served on the Board of Trustees, including as Board President, during a pivotal period in the institution’s history when Compton College achieved important milestones such as the restoration of accreditation and the return of local governance. Her leadership and deep familiarity with the district’s transition and long-term strategic direction bring valuable continuity and experience to the Board.

Throughout her career, Dr. Jones has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, higher education, and community partnership. With professional experience spanning government, nonprofit leadership, and higher education, she has consistently advocated for policies that strengthen student success, institutional accountability, and community engagement.

In prior public remarks, Dr. Jones emphasized that Compton College’s progress has been the result of collaboration among students, faculty, administrators, and community leaders, describing the return of independence and accreditation as a milestone achieved through shared commitment and partnership. She has also highlighted the importance of maintaining a cohesive culture that supports student success while strengthening enrollment, retention, and completion outcomes.

Under California law, a provisional appointment fills the vacant trustee seat until the next regularly scheduled election, when voters will determine who will complete the remainder of the term. The Trustee Area 2 seat will appear on the ballot in the November 3, 2026 general election, meaning Dr. Jones will serve in this provisional capacity until that time.
