The Compton Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate another moment of national recognition for our community as Chamber member EntreNous Community Empowerment earns a prestigious grant from the Jacques Pépin Foundation—an honor that reflects the exceptional work being done right here in Compton.
Every community has organizations that quietly make a difference. They educate, mentor, train, and create opportunities for the members of our community seeking a better future. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, there are moments when those efforts receive recognition beyond the local community. Such moments deserve to be celebrated—not simply because of the award itself, but because of what it says about the quality and impact of the work being done.
This week marks one of those moments for Compton.

EntreNous Community Empowerment, Inc., one of the newest members of the Compton Chamber of Commerce, has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Jacques Pépin Foundation in support of its Impactful Bites Hospitality & Culinary Training Program. Although the financial award will help strengthen the program, the greater significance lies in the organization that chose to make the investment. Receiving support from the Jacques Pépin Foundation is more than a grant—it is a national endorsement of a program that is changing lives through education, workforce development, and opportunity.

For the Compton Chamber of Commerce, this recognition represents not only a proud milestone for one of our members, but also another example of the outstanding organizations that continue to elevate Compton's reputation throughout Southern California and beyond.
Empowering Lives Through Culinary Education
EntreNous Community Empowerment was founded on the belief that education and practical job skills can transform lives. The nonprofit works to strengthen communities by providing workforce development, life skills, and educational opportunities for individuals who often face significant barriers to employment.
Among its signature initiatives is the Impactful Bites Hospitality & Culinary Training Program, which prepares participants for careers in the food service and hospitality industries through comprehensive, hands-on instruction. Students learn culinary fundamentals, food safety, kitchen operations, teamwork, customer service, and professional workplace expectations while gaining practical experience that prepares them for employment in restaurants, hotels, catering companies, institutional food service, and other hospitality-related careers.
The program serves a diverse population that includes foster youth, veterans, formerly incarcerated individuals, young parents, and others seeking a fresh start. Rather than simply teaching cooking techniques, Impactful Bites focuses on building confidence, developing professional skills, and creating pathways toward long-term employment and economic independence.
This approach reflects an important truth: workforce development is about much more than job training. It is about helping individuals discover their potential, equipping them with marketable skills, and providing opportunities to build stable, productive futures for themselves and their families.
A Foundation Built by a Culinary Legend
To fully appreciate the importance of this award, it helps to understand the legacy of the individual whose name the Foundation proudly carries.

Jacques Pépin is widely regarded as one of the most influential chefs and culinary educators of the modern era. Born in France, he began his culinary apprenticeship as a teenager and went on to serve as a chef for French heads of state before moving to the United States, where he built an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades.
Throughout that career, Jacques Pépin became far more than a world-class chef. He emerged as one of the world's most respected culinary teachers, introducing generations of professional chefs and home cooks to the art of cooking through bestselling cookbooks, award-winning PBS television programs, public lectures, and culinary education. His ability to make classical cooking approachable earned him international acclaim and numerous honors, including multiple James Beard Awards and recognition as one of the most influential voices in American culinary education.
Beyond his remarkable professional accomplishments, Jacques Pépin has consistently emphasized that cooking is a skill capable of changing lives. He has long believed that culinary education provides not only technical knowledge, but also confidence, discipline, creativity, and a pathway toward meaningful employment.

That philosophy inspired the creation of the Jacques Pépin Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting community-based culinary education programs that expand access to professional training and create opportunities for individuals seeking a better future.
Each year, the Foundation carefully evaluates nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that share its mission. Grants are awarded to programs demonstrating excellence in culinary instruction, workforce development, and community impact.
For that reason, receiving a Jacques Pépin Foundation grant carries significance well beyond its monetary value. It represents recognition from one of the nation's most respected culinary institutions that a local program reflects the highest standards of education, mentorship, and public service.
Why This Recognition Matters
While headlines often focus on the dollar amount of a grant, the true value of awards such as this lies in the confidence they represent.
Foundations with national reputations receive applications from organizations across the country. Their grants are awarded only after careful evaluation of each program's mission, effectiveness, leadership, and potential for long-term impact.
When a foundation associated with one of the world's most respected culinary educators chooses to invest in a program located in Compton, it sends a powerful message.
It says that excellence is being recognized.
It says that innovation is happening here.
It says that organizations in Compton are producing work worthy of national attention.
That recognition extends beyond EntreNous itself. It reflects positively on our city, our nonprofit community, our educational partners, and the growing network of organizations working every day to strengthen Compton through opportunity rather than rhetoric.
Strengthening the Local Economy One Career at a Time
Hospitality remains one of the largest employment sectors in the United States, offering careers that range from restaurants and hotels to healthcare food service, event management, institutional dining, catering, and entrepreneurship.
Programs like Impactful Bites help meet that workforce demand by preparing participants with practical skills that employers need while giving students the confidence to pursue meaningful careers.
Every graduate who enters the workforce contributes to the local economy. Every new career strengthens a family. Every individual who gains financial independence helps create a stronger and more resilient community.
This is precisely why workforce development deserves recognition as an important component of economic development. Investments in people often produce returns that extend for decades, benefiting employers, neighborhoods, and future generations alike.
A Proud Moment for the Compton Chamber
The Compton Chamber of Commerce is especially proud to recognize this achievement because EntreNous Community Empowerment recently joined the Chamber as one of our newest members.
Our Chamber has long believed that a thriving business community depends upon strong partnerships among businesses, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders. Organizations like EntreNous demonstrate how those partnerships can create tangible opportunities that benefit both individuals and the broader local economy.
As the Chamber continues working to strengthen Compton's economic future, we remain committed to supporting organizations that invest in education, workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and community development. These efforts complement one another and contribute to a healthier, more prosperous city for everyone.
Congratulations on a Well-Deserved Honor
The Compton Chamber of Commerce extends its heartfelt congratulations to the leadership, instructors, staff, volunteers, partners, and students of EntreNous Community Empowerment on this outstanding achievement.
Receiving a grant from the Jacques Pépin Foundation is a meaningful honor that reflects the dedication, professionalism, and vision behind the Impactful Bites Hospitality & Culinary Training Program. More importantly, it affirms that programs developed in Compton can earn the respect and confidence of nationally recognized institutions.
We are proud to welcome EntreNous Community Empowerment as a Chamber member and celebrate this exciting milestone alongside them. We look forward to seeing the organization continue expanding opportunities, transforming lives, and demonstrating that Compton is home to innovative programs whose impact reaches far beyond our city limits.
National recognition is never achieved overnight. It is earned through commitment, excellence, and a steadfast belief in the value of serving others. EntreNous Community Empowerment has demonstrated all three, and our community is stronger because of it.
