Compton/Woodley Airport can become a stronger center for aviation businesses, workforce training, youth education, local contracting, and community events. The Chamber encourages an updated economic-impact study, a public status report on the replacement terminal, a directory of airport businesses, and formal career pathways connecting local students to aviation and aerospace jobs. Compton should receive measurable economic value from this historic asset.

Compton Unified became Everytable’s first traditional public K–12 district partner, helping the company test a school-meal model that has since expanded across California. Beyond student nutrition, Compton should measure contract performance, costs, food waste, jobs, and supplier participation—and pursue production, distribution, training, and procurement opportunities so the city shares in the long-term economic value of the business model it helped launch.

Compton’s 2025 Small Business Grant Program offered qualifying businesses up to $25,000 to support growth, preserve jobs, and strengthen the local economy. The Chamber encourages the City to publish a complete results report showing the funding awarded, businesses served, selection process, use of funds, jobs retained or created, and lessons learned. Public reporting would document the program’s impact and guide future business assistance.

New housing investments are reshaping Compton Boulevard, including 60 townhomes at Concord Court and 75 affordable and supportive apartments under construction. But housing alone will not revitalize the corridor. Compton must connect new residents and construction spending with local businesses, jobs, contractors, occupied storefronts, safer streets, public improvements, and a coordinated strategy that converts development into lasting economic value.

Compton’s industrial market is shifting from extreme scarcity toward greater balance. Vacancy has increased in parts of Los Angeles County, rents have retreated from recent peaks, and tenants have more negotiating power. Yet major investments confirm Compton remains a valuable industrial location. This changing market creates an opportunity to retain employers, recruit higher-value industries, improve properties, and generate better local jobs and contracts.

Ribbon cuttings celebrate new businesses, but Compton must also track what happens afterward. The City and Chamber should measure one-, three-, and five-year survival, employment, expansion, closures, local purchasing, and obstacles businesses face. A Business Vitality Dashboard, regular follow-ups, employer visits, and continued technical assistance would help Compton retain companies and measure economic success by lasting growth—not opening-day photographs.

Strong communities are built through collaboration. Businesses, schools, nonprofits, civic organizations, and public agencies each play an important role, but their greatest impact comes through partnership. Twenty Compton Unified scholars recently participated in the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy, where they explored careers in aviation, aerospace, engineering, and drone technology through hands-on experiences and industry tours. Supported by the FAA, OBAP, American Airlines, and Fly Compton, the program introduced students to high-demand career pathways while helping strengthen the future workforce of our region.

Oceanwide Plaza's unfinished towers became a global symbol of stalled development, but beneath the graffiti remained one of Southern California's most valuable locations. As new investors move to complete the project, it offers an important lesson: strategic assets retain long-term value even during difficult periods. For communities like Compton, lasting economic success often begins by recognizing, strengthening, and building upon the opportunities already in place.

The Compton Chamber of Commerce invites residents to celebrate Yoshinoya’s Ribbon Cutting & Community Relaunch on February 20, 2026. The event marks the restaurant’s official Chamber membership and a fresh chapter under new management. The celebration will also feature the presentation of a vibrant community mural by Compton-born artist Mel Depaz, fully funded by Yoshinoya as a gift to the city and a symbol of local pride and beautification.
