Compton Recreation Department Winter 2025: A Season of Renewal, Activity & Community Connection

The City of Compton’s Winter 2025 Recreation Guide highlights a season full of growth, revitalization, and expanded opportunities for residents of all ages. With major park upgrades, an impressive lineup of youth and senior programs, and festive citywide events, the Department of Recreation showcases its commitment to strengthening community wellness, safety, and engagement.

Investing in Parks & Public Spaces

Throughout Compton, parks are receiving significant improvements funded by sources such as CDBG grants, Per Capita Grants, and partnerships with organizations like KABOOM! and Delta Air Lines.

Notable updates include the fully redesigned playgrounds at Cesar Chavez Park, Wilson Park, Kelly Park, and Lueders Park—each featuring vibrant, inclusive play areas designed for children of all abilities.

Construction continues at Tucker Park and Tragniew Park, where new playgrounds, courts, and fitness equipment will further expand access to active outdoor recreation.

Youth Programs That Inspire and Support

This season offers robust activities across all community centers, emphasizing fitness, creativity, leadership, and teamwork. Highlights include:

  • Basketball clinics, futsal pickup games, and multilevel youth baseball at Gonzales Park.

  • After-school programs, homework help, and arts & crafts at Kelly, Lueders, Tucker, and Burrell-MacDonald Parks.

  • Specialized programs such as Photography 101, flag football leagues, youth cricket incentives, and structured toddler and youth soccer.

Each center provides a safe, structured environment where children and teens can develop skills, friendships, and confidence.

Active, Connected Living for Seniors

At Dollarhide Community Center, seniors enjoy a full slate of wellness and social programs—including fitness classes, crochet, line dancing, Bingo, computer classes, card games, and the Friendship Club. Weekly movie days bring seasonal favorites to the big screen.
