A ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for Summer 2026, marking a new chapter for Community Legal Aid SoCal and its ongoing commitment to the Compton community. Additional event details will be announced soon.
The Chamber looks forward to supporting Community Legal Aid SoCal in its continued efforts to strengthen access to justice and expand essential legal services throughout our region.

Established in 1993 as the Thurgood Marshall Justice Center, the Compton office has
long been a pillar of access to justice for local families.
For more than three decades, the Thurgood Marshall Justice Center has provided steadfast legal support to the Compton community. Staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that residents facing civil legal challenges are not left to navigate the system
alone.
Today, a dedicated team of attorneys and paralegals serves clients five days a week,
assisting with housing and eviction matters, public benefits, domestic violence
restraining orders, and other critical civil legal issues.
The Compton office is currently undergoing significant facility improvements aimed at strengthening the infrastructure needed to deliver critical civil legal services in a welcoming and modernized environment.

Residents of Compton are cordially invited to attend the upcoming ribbon-cutting celebration marking the re-grand opening of the office space, which is currently undergoing thoughtful improvements. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Summer 2026, with additional event details to be announced soon.
The Compton Chamber of Commerce wholeheartedly welcomes Community Legal Aid SoCal as a valued business member and community partner, and we look forward to supporting their continued work in strengthening access to justice throughout our region.

Why the Compton Office Bears the Name of Thurgood Marshall

The Compton law center is named after Thurgood Marshall, honoring the first African American Justice of the United States Supreme Court, who dedicated his life to advancing civil rights, equal protection under the law, and meaningful access to justice for underserved communities.
His legacy continues to guide the mission carried out within these walls.
Displayed prominently in the office is a framed quote from Thurgood Marshall that reflects the heart of the organization’s mission:
“None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody — bent down and helped pick up our boots.”
