AI-powered Flock cameras do more than read license plates: they record vehicle make, model, color, distinguishing features, location and time, creating searchable travel records. More than 120,000 cameras reportedly operate across 49 states. Senator Josh Hawley has opened an investigation into data access, retention, sharing, errors and misuse, warning that Congress never authorized this nationwide surveillance network.

Compton has approved a major public safety initiative featuring 74 Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras and 37 PTZ cameras supplied by Flock Safety. The program aims to help recover stolen vehicles, support criminal investigations, and potentially deter dangerous activities such as street takeovers. As implementation begins, residents can expect ongoing discussions about effectiveness, transparency, privacy safeguards, and measurable public safety benefits.
