New Member Spotlight: Tutelage Security

The Compton Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome Tutelage Security as one of our newest Chamber members and an important new partner in strengthening business safety throughout our community.

Founded in May 2016, Tutelage Security has grown into an established California security provider serving commercial, industrial, retail, and community clients across the state. The company was founded by Rodney Kelley, who serves as both Owner and Qualified Manager under California Private Patrol Operator License PPO # 119817.

Headquartered in Oakland, Tutelage recently expanded its Southern California presence with the opening of a Long Beach office and is now in the process of establishing operations in Compton.

For the Compton Chamber, this represents more than simply welcoming another business member. It represents the beginning of what we believe can become an important long-term partnership supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and improving the business environment throughout the city.

Since its founding nearly a decade ago, Tutelage Security has built its reputation by providing professional unarmed security solutions tailored to the needs of businesses, commercial properties, industrial facilities, retail environments, and community organizations.

Building Something New Together

The Chamber's relationship with Tutelage extends beyond traditional membership.

The Compton Chamber of Commerce and Tutelage Security are currently working together to develop the Compton Business Safety & Security Initiative, a proposed public-private partnership designed specifically around the needs of Compton businesses. The initiative seeks to combine professional security services with business outreach, workforce development, and community engagement in a coordinated local effort.

The initiative is envisioned as a Chamber-led program that would provide participating businesses access to:

• Professional on-site security officers

• Mobile patrol services

• CCTV monitoring solutions

• Access control systems

• Loss prevention services

• Security coverage for shopping centers, warehouses, industrial facilities, business parks, financial institutions, and commercial corridors throughout the city.

Under the proposed model, Tutelage would provide licensed security operations and professional personnel, while the Chamber would coordinate business outreach, community partnerships, and program development efforts.

The objective is not merely to respond to incidents, but to create a stronger safety infrastructure that helps businesses operate with greater confidence while improving the overall business environment in the city.

Creating Opportunities for Local Residents

An equally important component of the initiative focuses on workforce development.

The proposed Compton Community Safety Careers Pathway seeks to recruit local residents, support security guard certification and training, provide Chamber-hosted professional development opportunities, and facilitate employment pathways into the private security industry.

By connecting local residents with career opportunities created through business growth, the initiative aims to generate benefits that extend well beyond security services alone.

The result is a model that supports businesses while simultaneously creating opportunities for local families and strengthening community stability.
