Since 1955, The Little Red Hen Coffee Shop, a beloved Black-owned breakfast spot in Altadena, has been a cornerstone of the community. Owned and operated by the Shay family, this neighborhood gem has been cherished for its shrimp and grits, biscuits, fried eggs, and more. Located on Fair Oaks, it has long been a place where locals gather for good food and warm hospitality. You can find their Yelp page here.

Tragically, the Eaton fire recently reduced this iconic establishment to ashes, leaving the Shay family heartbroken. Built by their grandmother, managed by Uncle Lonzia, and later run by their mother, The Little Red Hen represented decades of hard work, resilience, and community spirit.

GoFundMe campaign to raise $125,000 for the rebuilding efforts

If you can, please consider supporting the Shay family as they work to rebuild their cherished restaurant. Anissa Shay Faquir, a family member, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $125,000 for the rebuilding efforts. As of now, they have already raised over $30,000. Your contribution can help this family bring back a vital piece of the Altadena community. Thank you for your support.
