Dave was more than an acclaimed choreographer. He was a cultural bridge between our city and the world stage. Born and raised right here in Compton, Dave carried the rhythm, resilience, and creative fire of our community into every project he touched. He was a self-made artist who never forgot his roots—and never stopped making us proud.

Long before his work was seen in blockbuster films like You Got Served and Stomp the Yard, or on television hits like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars, Dave was just a young man in Compton teaching himself how to dance—on cardboard, in front of a TV, inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson and the movement on his own street.

What began as passion quickly transformed into a career that shaped the course of dance in popular culture. Dave’s unique voice as a choreographer helped usher hip-hop into the mainstream with elegance, precision, and soul. But even as his work touched international audiences, he remained a champion for our community and an inspiration to our youth.

He showed the world what Compton could produce—not just strength, but artistry. Not just hustle, but heart.

Dave’s story reminds us of the talent that lives in our neighborhoods and the power of nurturing that talent with faith and perseverance. He mentored, he uplifted, and he created opportunities for others to shine. And as the Chamber, we recognize that Dave was not only a gifted artist—he was an economic and cultural ambassador whose contributions elevated the image of our city.

To his family, we offer our deepest condolences. To his peers and students, we share your grief and your gratitude. And to the generations coming up behind him, we say: walk boldly, like Dave. Dance fully. Lead with love.

The Compton Chamber of Commerce will always remember Dave Scott as a legend—not only in the world of dance, but in the heart of the city that raised him.

May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy continue to move us all.

With honor and respect,

The Compton Chamber of Commerce
