🌿 COMPTON PROPERTY OWNERS: REPLACE LAWNS WITH WATER-SAVING LANDSCAPING!

Owners and managers of Compton apartment buildings, condominium communities, homeowners associations, and other multifamily properties may qualify for substantial financial incentives to replace existing grass with attractive, drought-tolerant landscaping.

Through the SoCal Water$mart Turf Replacement Program, eligible properties can receive rebates to help cover the cost of transforming water-intensive lawns into sustainable landscapes featuring native plants, efficient irrigation, and rainwater-capture improvements.




🏘️ APARTMENT COMPLEXES, CONDOMINIUMS, AND HOA COMMUNITIES


Multifamily properties with five or more residential units and eligible HOA-managed communities generally apply through the commercial turf-replacement program.


Eligible projects may receive:

💰 $2 or more per square foot of qualifying lawn replaced.

🌱 Rebates for up to 50,000 square feet per water-meter address, potentially providing $100,000 or more, depending on available incentives, funding, and eligibility.

🏢 Opportunities for apartment complexes, condominium communities, homeowners associations, commercial properties, and other qualifying facilities to reduce water use while improving landscaping.


Commercial and multifamily program:



🏠 SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES AND SMALLER RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES


Single-family homes and qualifying residential properties with four or fewer units may apply through the residential program.


Eligible projects may receive:

💰 $2 per square foot of qualifying lawn replaced.

🌱 Rebates for up to 5,000 square feet, potentially totaling $10,000.

🌳 An additional $100 per qualifying tree, for up to five trees, potentially adding another $500.

🌼 WHAT QUALIFYING PROJECTS GENERALLY INCLUDE


Projects must replace existing grass with a sustainable landscape that includes appropriate drought-tolerant or native plants, improved irrigation, and a rainwater-capture or filtration feature.


Typical improvements may include:

  • California-friendly and native plants.

  • Drip irrigation or other water-efficient watering systems.

  • Mulch or other permeable ground cover.

  • Rain gardens, dry creek beds, rain barrels, or other approved stormwater features.

  • Qualifying trees that provide shade and support healthier landscapes.


Artificial grass does not qualify.


⚠️ IMPORTANT: APPLY BEFORE BEGINNING WORK

You must submit your application and receive approval before removing existing grass or starting the landscaping project.


Projects started or completed before approval are not eligible.

Eligibility depends on the property’s water-service provider, location, project requirements, available funding, and the applicable residential or commercial program. Property owners and managers should verify the approved rebate amount before proceeding.
