In December 2018, Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson was sworn in for his third term representing the 64th Assembly District that includes Compton. He was also reappointed by Speaker Anthony Rendon for a third term as Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair, leading the historic 60-member supermajority in the Assembly.
